Plaj futbolu deniz, güneş ve topuksWithout shoes on the sand associated. Seems like where to play this game if the country does not have access to the sea? However, paradox: some of the most successful beach football teams in the world come from countries that have never seen the salty shore. Belarus, Hungary, Switzerland, Czech Republic, even Russia (where the beach season is short) — they dominate on the international stage. How do they do it? The secret is in artificial sandy fields, systematic preparation and rethinking the philosophy of the game. Let's figure it out.
Success key — building specialized sand fields. For example, in Hungary, there are several covered and open fields with imported sand (35-45 meters). The sand is carefully sifted, moistened so that it does not dust. There are national championships, training of the national team. Switzerland built the first covered arena in Europe — "Beach Soccer Arena" in Zurich. The Czech Republic has centers in Prague and Brno. These countries do not depend on the weather — you can play all year round. The sand can be from quarries, even from deserts, the main thing is its fraction.
The Hungarian beach football team is one of the strongest in the world. They regularly participate in the World Cup and European Championships, taking prize places. Their success is based on culture: in the country there are children's academies where beach football is taught from 8 years old. Trainers use specific exercises: speed game, free kicks, acrobatic saves by goalkeepers. Hungarians also actively invite Brazilian specialists who impart technique. The star of Hungarian beach football — Barnabás Deák, whose bicycle kick goals are known worldwide.
Switzerland is another example of success. The Swiss national team won the European Championship (2012, 2016). Their style is discipline, tactical training, strong shots. Players often come from futsal or big football, who have transferred. Thanks to good financing, they can afford regular training in warm countries (Spain, Portugal) for tournament preparation. However, the base is an indoor arena in Basel, where there is sand and temperature all year round.
The Czech national team is also in the top 10 in the world. Their success is associated with a strong beach football school at the football association. They have their own championship (Balónová liga), sponsored by beer brands. Czechs are known for their goalkeeper school — many goalkeepers come from handball, where catching the ball is refined. The Czech Republic reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup 2025, losing to Brazil. Their players — Tomáš Gurov, Michal Salák — become heroes at home. Belarus - in the final.
Russia is a country with a vast coastline, but beach football is also popular in regions far from the sea. For example, the team from Ekaterinburg (Ural) trains in closed sandy arenas. The Russian national team is one of the strongest in the world (winner of the 2023 Euroleague). They have their own super star — Yegor Shaykov, who scores fantastic goals. Coach Mikhail Likhachev has created a system where players from different regions (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Ekaterinburg) gather for training camps in Crimea or Sochi. But in winter — covered arenas in Moscow (for example, "Luzhniki" with a transformable field).
Beach football is not a game on a real beach with waves and seashells. It is a sport with clear rules: sand 40 cm deep, flat surface, special gates. It does not require an ocean breeze. Therefore, countries without the sea can create artificial conditions, even better than natural ones. Moreover, in such countries, the sand is not mixed with garbage and is not eroded by tides. The game becomes cleaner, more predictable.
The success of non-sea countries has inspired other states: Belarus, Poland, Austria, Slovakia, even Kazakhstan are building sand fields. In Kazakhstan (where there is the Caspian, but desert regions), beach football is developing in Aktau and Almaty. In 2026, the successful debut of the Belarusian national team at the European Championship is expected — they have a covered arena in Minsk.
Beach football is not about the sea. It is about the beauty of shots, acrobatics, dynamics. Non-sea countries have proven that enough sand, desire and good organization are enough. The sea is romance. And victory is the result.
