The first international symposium "Kyrgyz-Turkic relations from ancient times to the present day"was held on May 5-7, 2013 under the auspices of President of Turkey A. Gul and President of Kyrgyzstan A. Atanbayev at the Uludag University in Bursa. It is organized by Kyrgyz scientists, university professors and businessmen working in Turkey and Kyrgyzstan, Turkish researchers of Central Asia, Russian scientists studying the problems of medieval history of the ancient Turks and Kyrgyz.

Khudyakov (Novosibirsk, Russia), Rector of Uludag University K. Dilek, Professor of the Kyrgyz National University T. S. Khudyakov (Novosibirsk, Russia) addressed the participants of the symposium with greetings. Chorotegin (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan). The speakers discussed the prospects of cooperation between scientists from different countries in studying the history and culture of medieval and modern Turkic peoples.
In the future, the work of the conference was continued in sections. The session of section " A " opened with a speech by V. Ya.Butanaev (Abakan, Russia), who shared with the audience his thoughts on information from medieval Chinese sources about the Yenisei Kyrgyz and the peculiarities of their language. According to the speaker, the ethnonym "Kyrgyz" can mean "steppe tribes", and some "Samoyedic" words have been preserved in the language of the Yenisei Kyrgyz. Yu. S. Khudyakov considered the development of weapons among the Kyrgyz of Southern Siberia and Central Asia in the IX-XII centuries. historical period. T. Chorotegin, a well-known Kyrgyz scholar and historian, Professor at the Kyrgyz National University (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan), has studied the problems of studying the ancient and medieval history of the Kyrgyz people in Central Asia. He touched upon the issue of ancient Kyrgyz people living in the Xiongnu period on the Eastern Tien Shan near the Boro-Horo ridge, based on sources from the Han Dynasty.
G. Aimakunova (Gazi University, Turkey) presented important information about the spread of Islam among Kyrgyz people living in Kyrgyzstan. The report of A. M. Mokeev (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan) was devoted to the analysis of ethnonyms and tribal divisions of the Kyrgyz and Oguz. The speaker analyzed the information contained in medieval Persian sources about the divisions On-Kanat and Sol-Kanat, about the names of some Teles tribes, including the Bugu tribe, that have survived to this day.
M. Kozhobekov (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan) presented an analysis of different ethnic groups in the Kyrgyz and Oguz communities. He presented the points of view of V. V. Barthold and L. A. Borovkova and expressed a number of considerations about the places of residence of the ancient Kyrgyz in the Eastern Tien Shan or in northwestern Mongolia. According to the speaker, some of the ethnonyms and tribal names of the Kyrgyz and Koreans are consonant or coincide. R. Gencha (Gazi University, Turkey) spoke about the history of the Karakhanids in Kyrgyzstan. He analyzed the information about the Karluks, Chigils, Tuheys and other tribes living on the territory of the Tien Shan and Semirechye in the Karakhanid period and offered his understanding of some well-known Kyrgyz toponyms. For example, the name of the city of Osh should mean "Horde".
The joint report of A. Pronin and L. A. Bobrov (Novosibirsk, Russia)" Methods of conducting horse combat on peaks by nomads of Central Asia of the XVII - mid-XIX centuries " concerned the use of shaft piercing weapons in close combat by Kazakh soldiers. In the report of A. Y. Borisenko (Novosibirsk, Russia) "European scientists of the XVIII century. on the military affairs of the Yenisei Kyrgyz in the late Middle Ages " presented historical information about weapons, fortifications and events of military history, collected by European scientists who were in the Russian service and traveled through Siberia during the XVIII century. V. V. Ushnitsky's speech (Yakutsk, Russia) was devoted to clarifying the borders of the Kyrgyz Khaganate in the era of great power. S. Madiarov (Osh, Kyrgyzstan) considered information from written historical sources about the Turkic state formations that existed on the territory of Kyrgyzstan in the early Middle Ages. In the speech of M. At the Kalkan Museum (Karatekin, Turkey), dedicated to the study of the Krasnaya Rechka and Shamshi monuments in the Chui Valley of Kyrgyzstan, some archaeological finds from these monuments were examined, including arrowheads, Türgesh coins, images of Tamga signs and runic inscriptions. T. Kenensariev (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan) reported information about contacts of medieval Turkic states on the Tien- Shana and in Semirechye with Byzantium.
The symposium was an important event in the study of the history and culture of Kyrgyzstan and Turkic-Kyrgyz relations. His work was accompanied by a rich cultural program: visit the village of Iznek on the shore of the lake of the same name, visit the mazar built in honor of medieval Kyrgyz soldiers who took part in military operations as part of the Seljuk troops in the advanced Middle Ages. The organizers of the symposium expressed their intention to make this forum periodic and hold it alternately in Kyrgyzstan and Turkey.
